A fantastic day out . Very easy drive to the Park . The walk to the falls was magical . Such amazing place. The walk Is easy to manage and the falls and the extra walk to the tall tree is something that we both enjoyed. There are limited food places but the pub close by (700mtrs) past turn off is under new ownership and looks great
The Russell Falls and the tall trees walk are really a superb attraction. Our Grayline tour was less than first class despite a good and knowledgeable guide. We stopped about 30 minutes in at New Norfolk for a toilet break and the opportunity to buy sandwiches, but no one wanted either but we still spent 15 minutes in a car park behind a McDonalds, too far from the town centre to see anything. A trip to a trout farm was included - given time again we'd rather have spent more time at the main attraction. When we reached the National Park, we spent 25 minutes on the tall trees walk, then a 50 minute break at the visitor centre, followed by 30 minutes on the Russell Falls walk - so effectively we spent less than an hour on the main attractions. Had we been left to our own devices we could have chosen to go on to Horseshoe Falls. This quite possibly suited a lot of people - I'm just saying there are plenty of tours taking in these sights: make sure you read the itinerary before booking! The Grayline coach had little legroom - I'm less than 6 feet tall, but the ride - unavoidably bumpy at times - was distinctly uncomfortable. But at the end of the day we were glad we'd seen a fabulous attraction.
I hesitated over spending $150, but it was worth every cent. Tim was a fantastic guide - as he's worked in forestry, he knew so much about what we were seeing, and interwove facts and anecdotes in a memorable and enjoyable way. His passion for Tasmania and Tasmania's wilderness really shone through. He was extremely considerate of the different needs of the people in our small group in many little ways. This tour really fired my ambition to come back to Tasmania for much longer and to see so much more of this gorgeous, untamed place. Thank you, Tim and Gray Line Tours!
This was a small group (5 total) was perfect. We got to know other people and was a great time. Since it was a small group, we got to see some views off the beaten path. Heather was a prefect guide and she had great information and stories along the way. Having a awesome guide really makes the trips so much better. She is a great picture taker and could easily be a professional at this...thank you:) The fishery was cool and the cafe had great pancakes too. The park was amazing in showcasing the water fall, the size of the trees and nice it was to walk through the forest. The all day trip was a great way to see Tasmania is a different light. we highly recommend this to anyone visiting Hobart.
We had a lovely Trip to Russell Falls , quite an enjoyable day and indeed good value for money. Our tour guide Su was so cheerful and informative . We had a lovely meal at Waterfall cafe and our little group of passengers were nice company. Highly recommend this day tour to everyone holidaying in Hobart.
Its simply worthwhile visiting the park just for Russell Falls. We were lucky to have also seen a group of pademelons hopping around the forest. Did the 3 waterfall loop but in my opinion, Lady Barron and Horse shoe falls hardly compare to Russell falls. Its still a pleasant hike though if you aren't pressed for time as the forest is quite scenic. Do note that if you decide to take the 40min. Return trail option to the visitor centre, you'll need to climb 200+ of very steep steps. There are plenty of resting benches along the way though.
Took a tour from the cruise ship in Hobart to the salmon ponds, Mt Field NP, and Russel Falls with Tim as our driver/guide. It was a beautiful day and Tim did an incredible job. The Latte and pancake (crepe) topped with the best scoop of ice cream served at the salmon ponds were a treat. Tim took the time to describe the history of the areas visited and accompanied us to the sights elaborating on the local flora and fauna. He is quite knowledgeable about the plants animals and insects in the park, having worked for the forest service. Thanks again Tim for an Excellent tour!
Excellent day trip with Tim our guide for the day, so knowledgeable about Mt Field National Park and every little town and landscape you pass through in the bus, i asked plenty of questions and he knew the answers, great to chat with, would book through Tazzy grey line again anytime, they definitely go out of their way to make the day memorable.
A wonderful day trip with bus driver, tour guide Tim. A very knowledgeable guide who made the trip into the beautiful wilderness area very special. We learned about the flora and fauna of the area as well as enjoying the sights to and from the area. A very worthwhile trip from Hobart.
Tour was cancelled and I wasn't informed via email about it. So I was waiting at the pick-up spot but nobody came and as I called them, they told me they left a message on my voice-box - which wasn't installed because as a tourist, I only have a pre-paid aussie-number/card. Pretty disappointing because everyone was telling me how wonderful the Russel Falls are! Wish they would have written me an email, so I could have planned another tour for this day!
