I have done several whale watching cruises overseas but this was our first trip in Australia and it was equal if not better than the overseas ones. We where fortunate to see a whale as it’s a bit hit and miss if the whales are sighted. Not only did we see a humpback whale but also saw pods of juvenile seals and common dolphins. The staff on the boat where very helpful with information about the area and the wildlife we saw. It was cold but you could stay inside until the wildlife was sighted. Morning tea and a light lunch plus tea and coffee was included in the ticket. If you have any dietary requirements if you advised these when booking they where catered for. I had a lovely time and would highly recommend this cruise.
It's more my fault for not cancelling as I had been watching the average weather forecast for days in advance. I have no issues with the company or the cruises and have been on two other seal cruises in the past (even one that was extended an extra hour due to bad weather and having to leave from San Remo instead of Cowes). My partner & I had such wonderful times on both seal cruises that we decided to go on the Whale cruise but could only advance book at the end of the season which was sad. I wish I could say that I had a great time on the Whale cruise but it was so rough that I missed an hour & a half wishing I was at home instead of feeling horrendously sea sick & freezing wet/cold. I know it was the end of the season and whales were scarce at this time (in a way it was good we didn't see one as I was unable to look up or move around so it would have been even more disappointing not to see it), however, my recommendation for next year's season to the crew to perhaps once there are more than 10 people suffering motion sickness, that the captain could be informed of increasing numbers and the boat should be directed back towards the more sheltered coast instead of further out into Bass Strait where the swells increased. It won't put me off going on another cruise (well, not another whale cruise) but I won't be booking in advance again.
We saw one whale towards the end of the trip. It was a magnificently humbling moment. It didn’t bother me if we never saw a whale I was just glad to have the day off work. The Captain and crew were fantastic professionals, accomodating even waiting an extra 10 mins for guests who didnt turn up, I wouldn’t have waited. The boat is comfortable and clean, warm inside or fresh and invigorating outside while listening to the engine humming away. A nice hot cup of soup, bun with real butter and savoury muffin served while you are relaxing enjoying the views. Help yourself to tea and coffee. Throw a cool Antarctic blast in now and then and it was the most awesome relaxing day I’ve had in a long time. I’ll be doing this cruise again next year with all my family. Thank you Captain and Crew, thank you Miss Whale and thank you playful Seals. Highly recommend.
A fabulous experience on a lovely boat crewed by real professional whale enthusiasts. We saw Fur Seals, and two amazing Albatross at very close quarter but the highlight of the 4 hour trip was when our magnificent sea host, a young whale appeared very close to the boat, close enough to see its eye, and gave us a show of blowing, breaching and a couple of tail slaps. What a birthday present from mother nature, a birthday I will never forget.
